Showcase Your Style

Hey everyone! Hope you enjoyed the holidays, I know I did. There was plenty of food and shopping that I think I will never eat or shop again. That's a blatant lie. Anyway, I'm going to have plenty of knew posts coming up soon because of the overload of new clothes I've got from my trip to St. Louis and from my post-Xmas shopping trip. I'm also going to be starting a photo shoot project with Andrea! We will be photo shooting the seven deadly sins, our way:) It's going to be awesome (Have an idea for a sin? Tell in the comments below!).

Anyway! The point of this post is to direct you to the new tab up above! The new portion of my blog is called SHOWCASE YOUR STYLE. Showcase Your Style gives you the opportunity to be featured on Caged In Clothes. All you have to do is be a member of CIC and shoot me an email with the information found on the page. You don't have to be a blogger to participate, anyone can show off their style because everyone has one! If you are a blogger, however, please send me the link to your blog and I'll link it when I put your mini bio up for the SYS post.

There will be 5-10 people featured each week and I will personally email you back if you are one! This is a sample of what one person's SYS feature will look like:

Shelby B., USA

My style is ever-changing.i can go from girly, to rocker, to chic in the blink of an eye and I plan to keep it that way. I admit that I follow trends, but mostly because I like them. If I don't like a trend, don't expect to see it on my body.

There you have it! If you want to see yourself featured on Caged In Clothes, Just click on the Showcase Your Style tab on the top of the screen and follow the instructions.

Fashion Sasquatch (Post Apocalypse)

She needs sunglasses. Can someone get her some P-R-O-N-T-O, PRONTO? She's a diva, believe me (I'm her), but hey, she survived the apocalypse. She now storms through the forest, taking in the aftermath the Mayans predicted. What aftermath? Let's be realistic; if everyone thinks something is going to happen, it won't... and it didn't. So she survives another day, ready to take on the world that is still living.

ABOUT THE LOOK: A little sheer here and a few hundred studs there... yes please. It's the holiday season and what doesn't say holiday more that a mint shirt with muted gold studs strung across the collar and cuffs? Well, besides a faux crocodile clutch. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that this is an outfit that I'd most definitely wear to a Christmas Party... If only I had one to go to...

With a Friend

She can stand the Fa-La-Las now, but before turkey time, not so much. Christmas is coming and she's at her friend's house, letting him test out his photography skills and giving him guidance on it. Vertical, not horizontal unless sitting. Stand in front and let her face the light. White balance; fix it. Whole body in the picture to get the outfit. He'll learn... in due time.

ABOUT THE LOOK: First off, the pictures are a little bright and I apologize about that. It was a little dark and gloomy outside, so we had to take pictures inside and, with no photography lights, flash would have to do! Anyway, a current trend I have fallen in love with is bodysuits! I got this one from OohlaLuxe and I was most definitely satisfied with it. It formed to my body, unlike most suits I have tried on, and the mesh panels made it super sexy, although I toned it down for school. I always love a good ole "pop piece," in this case the pop of color from the scarf.

BLOOPERS: Ah, well, yes. This scarf is not the ideal stationary item to hide behind if need be. Just saying.

Interview W/ OohLaLuxe's Kimberly Lawson

Here is an exclusive interview with the owner of the online boutique OohLaLuxe. Stay tuned for my post with their super adorable faux leather bodysuit with mesh inserts I git from them! It's gorgeous!

1. Why not start by telling us a little bit about yourself?

Well, my name is Kim, I'm the owner of boutique OohLaLuxe.com and the
fashion blog OohLaLuxe.net. I've been working in fashion for about
five years now, in a variety of capacities. In addition to being a
buyer, I'm also a professional fashion writer, wardrobe stylist, and I
work as a fashion consultant for aspiring boutique owners and up and
coming fashion brands.

2. When did you come up with the idea of opening Ooh La Luxe? What
steps did you take to make your idea become a reality?

I actually started working on Ooh La Luxe! back in 2007, and the
boutique oficially opened in 2008. I knew I wanted to be in the
fashion industry since I was a kid, but it wasn't until I went away to
college that I made the decision to make being a buyer and botique
owner my main focus. I actually chronicled my entire journey making
Ooh La Luxe! reality on my blog OohLaLuxe.net -- it was pretty
involved, especially on the business side. The creative side was the
fun part -- deciding on my branding, designing my website, and picking
out the perfect brands to execute my vision.

3. How do you select the pieces to put in your boutique? What does is  specialize in?
I look for items that are on trend at the moment, or will be hot in  the near future. That's only half of the process though -- there are  plenty of trendy items out there, but that doesn't mean people will  want to wear them, much less they'll be appropriate for Ooh La Luxe!  and what I want to offer my customers. So I narrow it down by just  trusting my own eye and asking myself if the item stands out, does it  fit in with our merchandise mix, and can I see other people latching  on to this style as well?

4. For others out there who are dreaming of opening their own online boutique, what are some tips you would give them? What do you wish you

knew when you started?

This is a great question! First off I would actually recommend
reading my blog backwards, starting from the very first posts. Even
though my blog is now more focused on outifts of the day and what's in
store, I have a couple of years worth of information covering just
about every aspect of how to start a boutique. And I would recommend
that up and coming boutique owners do something similar to what I did
-- start up your blog, instagram, facebook and twitter pages long
before you plan on opening your store, document your progress, and
you'll have a fanbase ready to buy your items as soon as you launch.
Also, pay as much attention to fashion as you can by observing what
people on the street are wearing, and paying a lot of attention to
social media, and what celebrities are wearing as well. So much trend
forecasting can be done just by spending time on instagram, Chictopia,
LookBook.nu and other fashion blogs.

5. I read that you graduated FIDM. Do you feel that FIDM prepared you
for your current career? How so?

Absolutely! I loved going to FIDM, it was a ton of fun and it actually
prepared me for a variety of roles in the fashion industry, and I'm
really grateful for that. There are a lot of things you just have to
learn on the job, and that's true in any industry, but FIDM taught me
a lot about manufacturing, how to spot quality garments, marketing,
branding, and step by step how to launch a product. One thing that
our marketing teacher told us is something I'll never forget -- he
told us that any time you're selling something, whether it be brick
and mortar, online, fashion centric or not, you're always selling an
experience and not just a product. That's so incredibly true and it's
something I'll always be striving to create for my customers.

6. Where do you see Ooh La Luxe going in the next 10 years?

In ten years I hope to have a couple of brick and mortar stores, and
to be one of the bigger online shops for young women.

7. Out of all the other online boutiques, why should a potential
customer choose to shop at yours?

For one thing, I'm always on a quest to offer the best prices to my
customers -- I try to keep things as affordable as possible, while
never sacrificing quality, so I'm constantly sourcing and working with
my manufacturers to get the best prices on my items. Also I feel like
a lot of other boutiques are either very edgy and faddish, or very
feminine -- I try to bridge the gap between both worlds. My aesthetic
is very much hard meets soft; Ooh La Luxe! always carries a lot of
pieces that may be classic in shape but done in more of a fashion
forward fabric, or something edgy with very feminine details.

A Penny for Her Thoughts

Deep breath. Take it in. She can see the world without even opening her eyes. What's she thinking as she faces the wind and lets her imagination run wild through the field she's standing in? A penny for her thoughts? You can't pay a penny for her thoughts, they're much more valuable than that; they're at least a dollar.

ABOUT THE LOOK: Oh I love this skirt (Forever 21)! It's so diverse! Anyway, it's December in Missouri so I'm wearing a mesh skirt and a tucked in lace, peplum top (Plato's Closet) when I should be in the fluffiest coat I can find. This weather is insane. And I know what a few of you are thinking... A white shirt! In December! Uhm... yes. I feel like white looks its loveliest in December when the there's snow on the ground! ... Or a field of tall, dead grass.

BIG Thanks to my friend Mason for taking these pictures. That's his dog... it's name is Penny;P

Plus, like Caged In Clothes on FB because there's a big surprise coming up that will be announced on there!

Such A Glamorous Jumper

So, I came in second for the Glamorous Blogger competition which means that I got to select one item from their store to receive. I had origionally chosen a white sweater with faux leather covered in spikes on the shoulder, but, unfortunately was told that it was out of stock. So now, I chose this jumper:

What do you think I should wear it with? Tell me in the comments!

Sneak Peek!

Want a sneak peek of my next post? Here it is!

(Sorry about the light/colors. My friend Mason is new to photographing and is still trying to figure out how to work the camera. He has to practice since he's going to be my photographer for St. Louis! [P.S. Mason, if you're reading this, I love you home dawg])

Win £100 to MaryJaneFashion

Who exactly is Mary Jane? If you look at the people in the street, she's the one walking in five inch heels. You can see her sitting in a coffee shop; square glasses and mustache shirt on. She's "that girl" at the clubs, wearing spikes and getting all the guys. Look in a mirror... she's you.

She's a punk. She's fierce. She's like a panther wrapped in leather, prodded with spikes and constantly ready to pounce. Look at her. Danger and mystery spills from every pore in her body. She's feared, yet desired.

No one has ever said, "Mary Jane who?" It's impossible to miss her. Jet black hair, blunt bang, red lips and freshly manicured claws. She's at the bar, she's dancing. She's probably following you.

She's sitting down, brushing her silky brown hair out of her face and stuffing it back into the messy topknot but stuck up on top of her head. Her pencil is slightly gnawed on since she's been chewing on it, trying to come up with a new idea for her paper. Her black, square glasses line her face and she concentrates hard on the next paragraph, not even noticing the nice guy behind the coffee counter smiling at her.

She sighs and decides her paper is good as finished and scribbles her name across the top, Mary Jane. Stuffing the paper into her quirky colored backpack, she grabs her mocha latte and throws a tip on the table. She'll be back tomorrow.

G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S. Fergie is her idol and Glamorous is her theme song. Sequins are her best friend and Ms. Mary Jane has vowed to marry the perfect jeweled clutch. She wears the perfect outfit everyday and looks spectacular in whatever it is.

Her pockets are only empty after a day long shopping trip. The clothes she buys are only made of the finest of the fine and her friends envy her extravagant wardrobe. She sparkles brighter than the sun and she will never let that change. It's what makes her... her.

As you can see, Mary Jane is everyone. She's your best friend, she's you, she's me. And, She's giving you the opportunity to win £100 to go shopping in her closet.

The online boutique Mary Jane Fashion is giving everyone of the Facebook users a chance to win £100 to their store. And trust me, that's going to go a long way. The shirts were all under £10 and the shoes pictured above were only £30! It's an amazing opportunity and there are many ways to enter. So log on into Facebook and enter HERE.
